Daniel Negreanu cashed in his 15th event this summer and advanced to his fourth final table, but he fell short in his quest for bracelet #7 when Keith Tiltson defeated him heads up to win 2019 WSOP Event #83 $100,000 High Roller for a sensational score worth $2,792,406. Tiltson made a pair of final tables in the final week of the 2019 WSOP with a sixth place finish a couple days earlier in the FINAL FIFTY. Meanwhile, Negreanu launched a late assault on the WSOP Player of the Year race.
Ship it to Keith Tiltson. Not only did he win his first bracelet, but he also denied Kid Poker from winning another one. It's been a weird series for Daniel Negreanu but he tried to end 2019 on a strong note with a final table appearance in the $100,000 High Roller. Kid Poker found himself fending off seven top-teir high balls including Nick Schulman, Igor Kurganov, Brandon Adams, Keith Tiltson, Sergi Reixach and a pair of dangerous Germans with Christoph Vogelsang and Dominik Nitsche.
Daniel Negreanu made a late surge in the Player of the Year standings when he cashed in his 15th event this summer. He made four final tables including two second-place finishes.
Event #83 $100,000 NL HIGH ROLLER - Final Results
The $100K is the price point that separates the rich from the super rich. It creates a demarcation line between the true savants, sharks, and ballers. It's like the Black Diamond trails in Colorado. Only the best of the best can survive, but the truly brave can take a shot at their own risk.
The WSOP $100K is one of those prestigious events that attracts a couple of hearty rich fools and a deviant pool of famished sharks. This year's 100K High Roller attracted 99 runners and a prize pool worth $9.6 million. Only the top 15 places paid out in one of the final events on the docket.
Among the notables who cashed and went deep in the 100K High Roller included Hames Chen, Danny Tang, Steffen Sontheimer, Kainalu McCue-Unicano, Sam Grafton, Jeremy Ausmus, and Steven Miranda.
The final table of eight included two Germans, a Brit with a Russian name, another Russian living in the UK, a Canuck living in America, and a trio of Yanks... including Nick "The Sober Truth" Schulman.
Austin's Keith Tiltson made a bunch of final tables, but he never went the distance until now. All he had to do was fade a frantic table that featured Daniel Negreanu, who has been hell bent on winning a seventh piece of bling this summer. Kid Poker has the six pack but a seventh eluded him even though he made four final table this summer.
Kid Poker also posted his second runner-up finish this year after finishing second place in the $10K Stud against Johnny World Hennigan. So close. Those are the ones that sting the most, but heck he got close once again with another deep run. Alas, he couldn't put away Tiltson.
The two Germans busted rather quickly at the final table. Christoph Vogelsang exited first in eighth place followed by Sergi Reixach in seventh place. Dom Nitsche got picked off in sixth place.
Brandon Adams won an online high roller couple weeks ago, but he couldn't go the distance in this once with a fifth-place finish.
Igor Kuganov hit the road in fourth place for a $840K score.
With three to go, it was Schulman, Kid Poker, and Tiltson. Everyone would lock up at least $1.1M but all the cheesecake and bracelet were on top.
Schulman hit the road in third place, which set up the heads up battle between Negreanu and Tiltson.
Alas, the poker gods blessed Kid Poker enough with his boyish good luck, lovely wife (hi, Amanda!), and poker acumen... so it was time they decided to turn their backs on Kid Poker for the moment. Instead, Tiltson stepped into the winner's circle. He banked a boatload of money and his first bling.
Negreanu earned a runner-up payday worth $1,725,838. Not too shabby, eh?
Tiltson won nearly $2.8 million.
