The Spring Championship of Online Poker on PokerStars returns with the 2020 SCOOP. This will be the 12th installment of their annual spring tournament series with 240 tournaments and 80 events with three tiers of buy-ins. The 2020 SCOOP also has $85 million in guarantees with $13 million in Main Event guarantees including the $5 million Main Event $10,300 buy-in (High).
Spring is the season of rejuvenation and rebirth. It's also the time for the annual PokerStars fiesta of online poker with their special series that caters to online players from all walks of life and bankrolls including ballers, pros, semi-pros, ex-pros, weekend warriors, casual players, curious souls, dilettantes, and pandemic noobs.
Now for the 12th Spring in the world, PokerStars has been the go-to platform for a cornucopia tournament action with the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). And despite the weirdness of 2020 with lockdowns and quarantines, there's not a better time for an online poker series than right now. Timing is everything after all, and the 2020 SCOOP will give poker players and professional something to look forward to in these uncertain times. Online poker is a great way to cure isolation with virtual gambling action. Whether you're playing a $2.20 buy-in event or a $25K High Roller, the 2020 SCOOP will provide a welcomed relief while everyone is sheltered in place.
SCOOP. SCOOP. SCOOP. SCOOP. SCOOP.
Yes, it's almost time for SCOOP. The 2020 installment kicks off on April 30 and will run through May 17. PokerStars is going big this time around with 80 events and 240 total tournaments featuring $85 million in guaranteed prize pools.
As per usual, there will be three levels of buy-ins with a low, medium, and high. You can play in a SCOOP title for as little as $2.20 with the lowest tiered buy-ins at the low level. There's also a lot of $5.50 buy-in events as well. And don't forget the plethora of SCOOP satellites running 24/7.
During the last 11 SCOOPs, Calvin 'Cal42688' Anderson (an American ex-pat in Mexico) dominated the spring fiesta with 10 SCOOP titles. Yes, 10! No other player won as many SCOOPs as Cal Anderson.
Last year, Gianluca 'Tankanzaa' Speranza pulled off a rare feat when the Italian pro living in Austria won the 2018 SCOOP Main Event and the 2019 SCOOP Main Event. It's not easy to win one major online title, but Tankanzaa shipped two Main Events in back-to-back years. Just call him… B2B Speranza.
In 2018, Tankanzaa faded a Main Event field of 654 runners to win $1.1 million in the SCOOP $10K Main Event. In 2019, Tankanzaa took down the $10K Main Event by outlasting 662 runners to win a little more than $1 million. Back-to-back scores for $2.1 million. Not too shabby, eh?
Some of the events include Seven-card Stud, 4-Max NL PKO, 6-Max PLO, 8-Max NL PKOs, 8-Game, Turbos, Afternoon Deep Stack, NL Omaha8, single draw, 5-card PLO, Triple Draw, Stud Hi/Lo, PLO8, o*, Razz, HORSE, and fixed-limit hold'em.
There's also a heads-up Turbo aka Progressive Total KO Zoom.
There will also have several branded events coinciding with 2020 SCOOP including the Thursday Thrill, the Sunday Million, Sunday Warm-Up, and the Sunday Cooldown.
The Main Event, aka 2020 SCOOP Event #74 will occur on Sunday, May 17 starting at 13:00 ET. There will be three Main Event tournaments with the low buy-in at $109, the middle at $1,050, and the high at $10,300. The low Main Event has a $3 million guaranteed. The medium and high Main Events each has $5 million guaranteed prize pool.
