When you're hot, you're hot. When you run good, you can crush mountains and steamroll everything in your path. Michael Addamo, the pro from Down Under, picked the perfect time to swoop into America and embark on a wicked rush in Las Vegas. Addamo parlayed his run good into back-to-back victories at the 2021 Poker Masters at the Aria, and came almost out of nowhere with two big wins in consecutive days to rocket himself to the top of the leaderboard and seize the coveted purple Poker Masters jacket.
Addamo missed the first 10 events of the 2021 Poker Masters, but he showed up in time to play the final two events. Over the weekend, Addamo took down Poker Masters Event #11 $50,000 NL which attracted 34 entries and a prize pool worth $1.7 million. The final table included Cary Katz, Alex Foxen, David Coleman, and Jason Koon. Addamo picked off Koon heads-up for the title and $680,000 in cash for the first-place booty. The victory turbo-thrusted Addamo to the top of the leaderboard with 408 total points ahead of Lou Garza in second place with 376 points, and Daniel Negreanu with 372.
The final event on the docket at the Poker Masters, Event #12 $100,000 NL attracted 29 events and a prize pool worth $2.9 million. Only five places paid out with a chunk of the cheesecake set aside to the top two places including $1.16 million for the champion and $754,000 to the runner up.
The final five included Michael Addamo, Nick Petrangelo, Alex Foxen, Stanley Tang, and Mikita Badziakouski after Addamo took out Stevie Chidwick on the bubble in sixth place. The big-stacked Addamo had more than 60% of the chips in play at the final table. Badzman busted first in fifth place, followed by Stanley Tsang in fourth. Alex Foxen's knockout in third place, set up the heavyweight bout between Nick Petrangelo and Addamo.
Petrangelo could not overcome Addamo and he hit the rail in second place, which paid out $754K. Not too shabby, eh?
Australia's Michael Addamo outlasted the Yanks and Belarusian to win a payday worth $1,160,000. It was his second Poker Masters title in consecutive days. He was already in first place on the leaderboard heading into the final table of Event #12, but the win locked up the purple jacket and squashed any challengers.
Addamo slipped on the purple jacker with 808 events at the 2021 Poker Masters. He played in two events (out of 12) and cashed in both with back-to-back wins for a total score worth $1.84 million. Addamo won nearly twice as much as Nick Petrangelo in second place with $929,800 in earnings and doubled his points total (402) after three cashes.
Lou Garza cashed four times but missed out on any titles to finish in third place on the leaderboard with 376 points and $550K in winnings. Daniel Negreanu popped his Poker Masters cherry with a win in Event #5, but Kid Poker missed out on the purple jacket. Negreanu posted three cashes for $433K, yet finished in fourth place on the leaderboard with 372 points.
In the PokerGo Tour Leaderboard, Ali Imsirovic leads everyone with 3,095 points for over $4 million in PGT season earnings. Sean Perry is in second with 2,301 points and $3.1 million in cashes.
