The 2021 World Series of Poker is almost over at the Rio Casino in La Vegas, but Spanish pro Leo Margets took down The Closer for $376,850 and her first bracelet. 2021 WSOP Event #83 $1,500 The Closer attracted 1,903 runners and Margets was the last player standing after besting a final table that included Stephen Song, Chris Moorman, and Cherish Andrews.

Ship it to Spain! Leo Margets went on a deep run at the 2009 WSOP Main Event, which put her on the map. She has been a sponsored pro since then and currently repping Winamax. Margets missed out on a bracelet in 2018 when she was a runner-up in a Double Stack event. But she did not squander this opportunity when she advanced to the final table at The Closer.
The Closer is one of the final donkaments and last branded event on the WSOP schedule with a $1,500 buy-in and slated for the final weekend of the 2021 WSOP. The Closer attracted 1,903 runners and a prize pool that swelled over $2.5 million. Only the top 274 places paid out with $376,850 set aside to the champion.
The final table of The Closer included Leo Margets, Alex Kulev, Stephen Song, Marc Lange, Arturo Segura, Cherish Andrews, Aleksandr Shevliakov, Chris Moorman, and Benjamin Underwood. With two women at the final table, there was an increased chance that a woman would win an open bracelet this year.
Chris Moorman was the biggest name at the final table, but the British pro saw his deep run end in eighth place. Cherish Andrews was picked off in sixth place, which paid out $74,680.
Margets and Alex Kulev from Bosnia found themselves heads-up for the bracelet in The Closer. Alas, Kulev could not pull off a comeback and he hit the rail in second place when Margets sent him packing. Kulev banked nearly $233K for a runner-up finish, not too shabby, eh?
Margets snagged her first bracelet and won a small mound of cash worth $376,850. Heck of a way to cap off the 2021 WSOP.
With over $1.65 million in earnings, Margets passed Clonie Gowen for #21 on the all-time women money winner list and she's closing in on Barbara Enright in 20 th place. Ana Marquez is the only other woman from Spain who won more money in tournaments ($1.87M) than Marquez, but she's closing the gap.
Notable players who went deep and cashed in The Closer included... SJ Buckley, Kenny Hallaert, Melanie Weisner, Ryan Riess, Landon Tice, Yuval Bronshtein, Brett aplter, Rainer Kempe, James Alexander, Nico Koop, Yu Zhu, Shannon Shor, Chance Kornuth, Ryan Tosoc, Jim Collopy, Dara O'Kearney, Barry Shulman, Gianluca Speranza, Dylan Wilkerson, Ari Engel, Kevin Rabichow, Martin Jacobson, Georgios Sotiropoulos, Barny Boatman, Barry Hutter, Dom Nitsche, Justin Liberto, Bernard Vu, Manig Loeser, Felipe Ramos, and Martin Zamani.
