The 2023 WSOP Main Event chugs along and several big names hit the rail on the fifth day of action including former champions Joe Hachem and Chris Moneymaker. Yeah, there will be a new champ this year when two of the poker boom kings were sent packing. Moneymaker and Hachem saw their Main Events come to an end when they were picked off early on Day 5. Both of the former champs banked $40,000 for cashing and making it to the fifth day with Hachem busting in 402nd place and Moneymaker hitting the rail in 403rd place.

Day 5 of the 2023 WSOP Main Event began with 441 players remaining after the money bubble burst early on Day 4. The big stacks had 5M at the start of Tuesday, but by the end of the day the chip leader would have more than 3x and only 149 players would survive one of the toughest days so far.

Scott Berko from the UK was one of the first players to amass 6M in chips. By 4:20pm in the afternoon, Glen Fishbein rocketed up to the top with well over 8M and a trio of players built up their stacks to least 7M in chips: Raj Vorha, Andrew Hulme, and Charlie Chiu.

Bryan Obregon became the first player among the final 250 or so players to reach 9M in chips.

At the start of dinner break, only 211 players were still alive. After two more full levels, the field was down to 149 runners and four big stacks emerged. American Zachary Hall emerged with the biggest stack with 16.3M, while Obergon bagged 12.3M for the second-biggest stack at the end of Day 5. Israel's Liran Betito (11.1M) and Andrew Hulme from the UK (11M) were the only players north of 10M.

The rest of the top ten included three Americans, one French player, and one Brit: Joshua Payne (9.85M), Tony Dunst (8.28M), Glenn Fishbein (8.26M), Jonathan Therme (7.9M), and Jack O'Neill (7.7M).

Among those other 149 fortunate runners who will return for Day 6 and still alive... John Duthie, Sam Stein, Nate Silver, Aaron Spear, Mo Hawkins, Alec Torelli, Daniel Weinman, Ping Liu, Christian Harder, Ryan Tosoc, Toby Lewis, Mitch Halverson, Mark Teltscher, John Racener, Nicholas Rigby, Amit Makhija, Estelle Cohuet, and Gabi Livshitz.

The first bustouts on Day 5 paid out $37,500 (places 414 to 440) and some of those early eliminations included... Imari Love, Sean Gibson, Omar Lakhdari, Dario Sammartino, Chris Brewer, and Jason Koon.

The next pay jump paid out $40K (places 351 to 413), and those knockouts included... Joe Hachem, Chris Moneymaker, Christian Roberts, Minh Nguyen, Marton Czuczor, Philip Hui, Michael Banducci, Tony Vo, Mario Lopez, Shota Nakanishi, and Maxime Parys.

The next pay jump paid out $44,700 (places 288 to 350) and that group of bustouts included.... Jason Somerville, Chance Kornuth, David Levy, Darryll Fish, Kyna England, James Obst, Leo Soma, Simon Lindell, Amanda Botfeld, Mitch Wasek, and Boutros Awad.

The next pay jump went to $50,900 (places 225 to 287) and those eliminations included... Jeff Gross, Chris Vitch, Jessica Vierling, Stuart Rutter, Bill Klein, and Richard Seymour.

The next pay jump was to $58,500 (places 162 to 224) and some of those bustouts included... Davidi Kitai, Nick Marchington, Yu Tang, Andrew Neeme, Faraz Jaka, Jesse Lonis, and Kevin Gimble.

The next pay jump was $78,900 (places 99 to 161) and some of those players who just missed out on the Top 140 included... Quan Zhou, Matt Salsberg and Pei Li.

Action for Day 6 resumes at noon on Wednesday and they will play five more two-hour levels. The final table is slated for Sunday and Monday with a day off on Saturday. So the remaining field has to get trimmed down to nine by the end of Friday, so that means there's three days to trim the field from 149 to the final 9.
