The 2024 WSOP Main Event continued with an exhilarating Day 7 that saw the field cut down from 59 to 18. France's Malo Latinois bagged the chip lead with 61.3M, but there are some big names still alive including Sweden's Niklas Astedt (50M), and Canadian pro Kristen Foxen (47.4M) who is also the last woman remaining at the final two tables. Six-time bracelet winner Brian Rast saw his epic Main Event run end in 24th place.

The 2024 WSOP Main Event inched closer to crowning a new champion. Only 59 players returned to action on Saturday morning for Day 7, only 18 remained at the end of Saturday night. For 41 unfortunate players, their dreams of winning $10 million and the Main Event bracelet had come to a demoralizing end on Saturday. Meanwhile, 18 lucky souls will return on Sunday for Day 8, where they intend to play down to a final table of nine. At the end of Day 7, Malo Latinois from France bagged the chip lead with 61.3M.
After seven grueling days of action, the Top 5 in chips include Latinois, Diogo Coelho (51.5M), Jason Sagle (51.4M), Niklas Astedt (50M), and Kristen Foxen (47.4M).
Also still left in the hunt are Joe Serock (46.3M), Malcolm Franchi (45.9M), Jason James (45.8M), Brian Kim (42.4M), Jessie Bryant (27.6M), Gabriel Moura (24.6M), Yegor Moroz (24.5M), and Guillermo Sanchez Otero (24.5M).
There are five players with stacks under 20M including Jonathan Tamayo (18.4M), Andres Gonzalez (14.9M), and Gerardo Hernandez (13.4M). Boris Angelov and Jordan Griff both have 8.3M and the short stacks are bringing up the rear.
Latinois has the big stack with 61.3M, and the next tier is a trio of players with 50M (Coelho, Sagle, and Astedt). Foxen leads the next tier of five players with 42M to 47M. There's a wide gap between the next group of four players with stacks between 24.5M and 27.6M. The bottom five players are separated into two distinct tiers with a trio between 13.4M and 18.4M and the two shorties with 8.3M.
Stephen Song, who was the chip leader in consecutive days mid-week, was shortstacked coming to the seventh day of action. Song could not get anything going early on Day 7 and he was sent to the rail in 57 th place.
Kevin Davis entered Day 7 with the chip lead and a stack worth over 26M, but he went from the penthouse to the outhouse when he was knocked out in 48th place.
With 39 players to go, Diogo Coelho (43.5M) and Malo Latinois (41M) were the two biggest stacks and only ones north of 40M. At the bottom of the chip count board was Brandon Cantu, who was on life support with under 2M. Cantu would hit the bricks in 39th place.
By dinner break, only 30 players remained and Malo Latinois added to his big stack and opened up a 20M lead with 65.5M. Jason James was second with 45.5M. At the break, Shundan Xiao and Tomas Szwarcberg were the short stacks.
After dinner, Brian Rast was knocked out in 24th place and France's Eliott Kessas busted in 23rd place.
Late in the evening, Kristen Foxen won a couple of decisive hands that propelled her into the Top 5 in chips. She was on the verge of elimination when she got it all in with Ace-five suited against pocket Queens. The proverbial ace on the river kept her alive, and she spun up her stack to over 47M. When the day ended, she was fifth overall.
Day 7 eliminations included... Charles Russell, Yake Wu, Kyosuke Nagami, Luis Vazquez, Brian Rast, Eliott Kessas, Orson Young, Adrian Lopez, Shundan Xiao, Daniel Erlandsson, Tomas Szwarcberg, Garrett Bok, Arthur Morris, Jean Lhuillier, Brandon Cantu, Robert Renaud, Julio Trimmer, Russell Rosenblum, Hiroki Nawa, Kevin Davis, Ed Pak, Stephen Song, Alex Keating, Brian Hawkins, Richard Low, and Yong Han.
With 18 to go, Foxen and Niklas Astedt are the best two players remaining. Foxen is a four-time bracelet winner with over $7.7 million in career earnings according to Hendon Mob. She won her first bracelet back in 2013 with a victory in the Ladies Championship. She has since won bracelets in $1,500 NLHE Bounty in 2016, $2,500 NLHE 6-Handed at 2020 WSOP Online, and Crazy 8's at 2023 WSOP Online last summer.
Astedt is Swedish online shark who is best known for playing under the 'Lena900' moniker. Astedt has over $3 million in live cashes according to Hendon Mob, but he won over $40+ million in online action. Depending on whho you talk to, Astedt banked over $50 million in hybrid live/online action including cash games and tournaments. Astedt narrowly missed a bracelet when he was the runner up in an WSOP Online event in 2020. He also made a final table at the 2021 WSOP and 2023 WSOP Europe.
On Day 7, there were four big jumps in payouts from $160K to $200K to $250K to $300Kto $350K for places 18 to 26. The next jump is for places 14-17 for a $450,000 score, followed by $600,000 for places 12-13, and $800,000 for places 10-11. Everyone at the final table secures a cool million with $10 million set aside to the champion.
Day 8 resumes at 2pm on Sunday in Las Vegas at the Horseshoe Las Vegas Event Center. The goal is to play down to a final table.
There's a little more than one hour remaining in Level 36 and blinds are 400K/800K with a 800K big blind ante.
