Another busy weekend in Las Vegas at the 2024 WSOP. Brazilian pro Yuri Dzivielevski won his fifth bracelet and third bling in the last two years with a victory in Event #53 $3,000 Nine Game Mix (7-Handed) for a $215,982 score. Santhosh Suvarna from India was the last player standing in Event #55 $250,000 Super High Roller NLHE when he outlasted 75 runners to win $5.4 million and his second bracelet.
The 2024 WSOP is well beyond the halfway point and more than 50 bracelets have been doled out this summer. A couple big events concluded over the weekend including the Super High Roller, $10K Razz Championship, Mixed Triple Draw, 9-Game Mixed, and the $10K Super Turbo Bounty Freezeout.
The $250K Super High Roller was one of those epic events that attracted a prize pool over $18.6 million. They had 75 total entries and only the top 12 places paid out with most of the cheddar (aka $5.4 million) set aside to the champion. Several big names went deep and cashed in the $250K SHR including Sean Winter, Mikita Badziakouski, Adrian Mateos, Phil Ivey, and Jonathan Jaffe. Jeremy Ausmus missed out on another shot at a bracelet when he busted in seventh place. The final six included Taylor von Kriegenbergh, Charles Hook, Matthias Eibinger, Chris Hunichen, Ben Tollerene, and Santhosh Suvarna.
Hunichen finally won his first bracelet last week and he followed that up with a third-place finish in the $250K SHR. Hunichen's elimination set up a heads-up joust between Ben Tollerene and Santhosh Suvarna in a battle of India and USA for the blind. Tollerene could not rally back and he busted in second place, which paid out $3.5 million for a runner-up finish. Not too shabby, eh? Suvarna won his second bracelet and $5,415,152 in cash. At the 2023 WSOP Europe, Suvarna stepped into the winner's circle for the first time with a victory in the €50K Diamond High Roller. He now has two bracelets and a pair of high roller bracelets.
Event #53 $3,000 Nine Game Mix (7-Handed) attracted 379 runners and a prize pool just north of $1 million. The top 57 places paid out with the top two getting most of the loot. The final table included Yuri Dzivielevski, Nicholas Julia, Masafumi Iijima, Scott Bohlman, Tomasz Gluszko, Ashish Gupta, and Bradley Jansen. Dzivielevski picked off Julia for the Nine-Game Mixed title. Dzivielevski banked $215,982 and his fifth bracelet. The Brazilian has now won five bracelets since 2019 including three since last summer. In 2023, Dzivielevski won an online bracelet in $10K PLO and he shipped $1,500 HORSE in Las Vegas.
Event #57 $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty NLHE Freezeout attracted 486 runners and a prize pool worth $4.5 million. The top 73 places paid out with $613K set aside to the champ. Frank Funaro snagged his second bracelet when he was the last player standing in this expedited tournament. The final table also included Shota Nakanishi, Michael Rocco, Oliver Weis, Aliaksei Boika, Steve Buell, Antoine Saout, Ludovic Geilich, and Aaron Johnson.
Event #56 $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) attracted 371 runners and a prize pool worth $825K. The top 56 places paid out. Patrick Moulder outlasted a tough final table that included Shaun Deeb, Chad Eveslage, Ian Chan, Yuebin Guo, Matt Smith, Anthony Hu.
Event #50 $10,000 Razz Championship is one of those prestige events that attracted true sadists and pros chasing a bracelet. A total of 118 entries were in this field that generated a prize pool worth nearly $1.1 million. The top 18 places paid out with $282K set aside to the champion sadist. George Alexander edged out Dzmitry Urbanovich for the Razz crown. The final table also included Ren Lin, Hal Rotholz, Brandon Shack-Harris, John Racener, Jared Bleznick, and Denis Strebkov.
