We have a new WPT champion and Chance Kornuth padded his bankroll with a major victory and his first WPT title. The $3,800 buy-in WPT Choctaw Main Event attracted 787 entrants, and the top 100 places earned a cut of the $2.75 million prize pool. The final table included Kornuth, Ray Qartomy, James Mackey, James Hundt, Steve Buckner, and Kristen Foxen. Kornuth picked off Buckner heads up to win $486,600.

Chance Kornuth passed over $10 million in winnings and the American pro from Colorado finally added a WPT title to his growing list of accolades including three WSOP bracelets. This WPT Choctaw event began in Oklahoma, yet ended under the bright and glitzy lights of Sin City. The WPT had a minor delay until the final table played out in Las Vegas at the HyperX eSports Arena.

This year's WPT Choctaw had a price tag of $3,800, which attracted 787 runners who generated a prize pool worth $2.75M. Only the top 100 places earned a piece of the pie, with the majority of the sweetness set aside to the top three places including $486,600 to the eventual champion.

Anees Puri bubbled final table in seventh place. The 2022 WPT Choctaw final table six included Ray Qartomy, Chance Kornuth, James Mackey, James Hundt, Steve Buckner, and Kristen Foxen.

Ray Qartomy bagged up the lead at the WPT Choctaw with 9.4M. He was barely ahead of Chance Kornuth and James Hundt, who also had stacks worth 9M. James Mackey was fourth in chips with 5M with Steve Buckner right behind him with 4.7M. Kristen Foxen was th shortest stack remaining with almost 2.2M.

Mackey missed a chance to win another event at Choctaw when he was the first player to exit the final table. The action did not play a full orbit before Mackey was all-in on Hand #4. James Hundt went to battle with Carte Dame de trèfleCarte Dame de carreau against Mackey's Carte As de cœurCarte Roi de carreau. Hudnt flopped a set of Queens and his pocket ladied held up. Mackey busted in sixth place which paid out $101,000. Hundt seized the lead with 15.1M.

On Hand #24, Kristen Foxen hit the rail when she made a final stand with Ace-nine but lost to Chance Kornuth's Carte Valet de cœurCarte 10 de cœur. Kristen Foxen flopped a pair of Aces, but Kornuth paired his ten. On the turn, Kornuth took the lead with two pair. The river did not help Kristen Foxen and Kornuth won the pot with Jacks up. Kristen Foxen banked $135,000 for fifth place. With four to go, Kornuth was the overall leader with 17.1M.

James Hundt lost a significant amount of his stack when Steve Buckner double through him with Carte Roi de piqueCarte 10 de pique against Hundt's pocket sixes. Twenty hands later on Hand #65, Hundt met his fate when he made a final stand with Carte Roi de piqueCarte 8 de cœur and turned trips, but got flushed out by Buckner's Carte 10 de carreauCarte 4 de carreau. Buckner rivered a flush when the Carte As de carreau spiked on the river. Hudnt earned $175,000 for fourth place. With three remaining, Kornuth sat behind a mountain of chops with a 26.6M stack had a more than twice as many chips as Buckner (5.2M) and Ray Qartomy (7.5M) combined.

On Hand #81, Ray Qartomy hit the bricks when his pocket fives were picked off by Chance Kornuth's Carte Valet de piqueCarte Valet de trèfle. The pocket Jacks held up and Kornuth won the pot. Ray Qartomy banked $235,000 for third place.

When heads-up began, Kornuth led 28.5M to 10.8M. Their battle would last a couple of hours with the two trading haymakers late in the evening. On the final hand, Buckner shoved, and Kornuth called with Ace-ten. Buckner held Carte 9 de cœurCarte 6 de carreau. The board ran out Carte Roi de trèfleCarte 5 de cœurCarte 5 de piqueCarte As de carreauCarte 8 de carreau. Kornuth won with a better two pair -- Aces and fives vs nines and fives. Dolly Parton was not good enough for Buckner and he headed to the rail in second place.

Buckner won $320,000 for a runner-up finish. Not too shabby, eh?

Kornuth won another title and gets his named engraved on the coveted Mike Sexton trophy. For shipping the WPT Choctaw, Kornuth won $486,600.

Ky Gardens, Jared Jaffee, Bin Weng win 2023 WPT titles

The World Poker Tour crowned three new champions in Las Vegas. Jared Jaffee claimed a second WPT title when he won the 20233 WPT Choctaw for a score worth $400,740 after he outlasted a field of 612 players. Bin Weng banked over $1.1 million when he was the last player standing in the 2023 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. Finally, Ky Nguyen aka Suited Superman shipped the 2023 WPT Gardens Poker Championship for a $357,380 score.

RIP Doyle Brunson, Tex Dolly Passes at 89

The Godfather of Poker, Doyle Brunson, passed away on Sunday. The legendary Texas Dolly won 10 bracelets at the World Series of Poker, and shipped the Main Event twice in back-to-back years in 1976 and 1977. Brunson played professionally for over a half of a century, and he became the first poker player to surpass $1 million in tournament winnings. He also authored the seminal poker strategy book titled “Super/System: A Course in Power Poker.”

Mike Watson wins 2023 EPT Monte Carlo Main Event

Canadian pro Mike Watson came the third player in EPT history to win two events when he emerged as the last player standing at the 2023 EPT Monte Carlo Main Event. Watson outlasted a field of 1,098 runners and edged out Germany's Leonard Maue in a heads-up chop to win €749,425. Watson secured a second EPT title to go along with his epic run at the 2016 PCA Main Event in the Bahamas.

PokerStars Sunday Storm birthday and Million Dollar Weekend

Joey Weissman, Ren Lin, Sam Soverel, Allan Le winners at 2023 US Poker Open

The 2023 US Poker Open is underway at the Aria Casino in Las Vegas. Through four events, Ren Lin is in first place on the US Poker Open leaderboard with one win and three cashes. 2023 SCOOP returns to US at PokerStars on March 17

PokerStars announced that the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) returns to American players in three states. The 2023 SCOOP has 42 events and the popular online tournament series will be available to PokerStars players on in Pennsylvania (PASCOOP) and a shared player pool in New Jersey and Michigan (MI/NJSCOOP) beginning March 17 and running through April 3. There's a total of $5 million in guanarteed prize pools.

Romana's Razvan Belea ships EPT Paris for €1.1 million

The European Poker Tour hosted the inaugural EPT Paris at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile. The €5,300 buy-in Main Event at the EPT Paris attracted 1,606 entrants with 447 re-entries. Razvan Belea from Romania parlayed a €530 satellite seat into a €1.1 million payday when he was the last player standing to become the first Romanian champion in EPT history.

Aliaksandr Shylko wins 2023 PokerStars Players Championship for $3.1 million

Aliaksandr Shylko from Belarus shipped the second-ever PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) for a $3.1 million score after he worked out a three-way money chop with Germany's Max Menzel and Philipe Pizzari from Brazil. Nacho Barbero went deep in the 2023 PSPC with a fourth-place finish at Baha Mar in the Bahamas. Shylko outlasted 1,014 runners who generated a prize pool worth over $24.8 million

LAPT Returns: PokerStars brings back Latin American Poker Tour

After a seven-year layoff, PokerStars will relaunch the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT). The LAPT returns to Brazil with a stop in Rio de Janeiro on March 2, 2023. There will be an event in Montevideo, Uruguay in April, plus two more events planned in Sao Paolo, Brazil in July and November. And there's other LAPT dates and locations that will be announced soon.
