When you're hot, you're hot. After a slow start, David Peters caught fire at the perfect time with the 2021 US Poker Open at the Aria Casino in Las Vegas winding down. Peters has been on a heater at the USPO since the end of last week when he emerged as the winner of a record-setting event in Event #7 $10,000 NL. He bested a field of 99 runners, which set a new USPO record and banked nearly $218K for first place.
On Sunday evening, Peters stepped into the winner's circle with an epic victory in Event #10 $10,000 Short Deck NL, which is slowly becoming a fetish event in North America. In Event #10, Peters denied Ali Imsirovic's pursuit of back-to-back titles when he sent Event #9 winner out in second place. However in Event #10, Peters pulled off the rare back-to-back feat where Imsirovic whiffed. With his second win, Peters moved into second on the leaderboard behind Imsirovic.
But now you can add a third USPO title to the mix after Peters ran the gaunlet in Event #11 $25,000 NL and emerged the victor after he dusted a field of 69 runners and nearly obliterated the final table.
A total of ten players were paid out in Event #11 with Chris Brewer bubbling the final table in seventh place. Also cashing but missing the final table were Randy Kass, Sergi Reixach, and John Riordan.
The lucky six at the final table for the $25K high balla affair included Jake Daniels, David Peters, Vanessa Kade, Dan Shak, Ivan Zufic, and Frank Funaro.
Vanessa Kade busted in fifth place, followed by Jake Daniels in fourth. Dan Shak's exit in third place (for $224K) set up a heavyweight bout between Peters and Ivan Zufic. When the dust settled, Zufic bounced in second place. He banked $345,000 for a runner-up finish. Not too shabby, eh?
Peters shipped Event #11 $25,000 NL for a score worth $465,750. It marked his second win in consecutive days and a third title in five days.
Peters retained his spot at the top of the 2021 US Poker Open leaderboard. He now has four cashes and three victories with nearly $833K in money winnings. Ali Imsirovic cashed five times, but won just once in Event #9. He's in second place on the leaderboard. Dan Shak cashed in his fourth USPO event in Event #11 and he's sitting in third overall. Jake Daniels and LuckyChewy round out the top five on the leaderboard. Daniels who one event and cashed twice, while LuckyChewey cashed thrice.
Only one event remains at the 2021 USPO at the Aria with the final table of Event #12 $25,000 NL plays down to a champion on Tuesday afternoon. Sam Soverel, who won an early event, still has a chance to win the USPO Championship if he can bink Event #12. The final table for the finale includes Jason Koon, Stevie Chidwick, Jon Little, Sean Winter, Bill Klein, and Soverel.
