Add two more winners in the record books with first-time champs at the 2021 US Poker Open. This year's high roller affair continued with the first non-NL or non-PLO event with Big Bet Mix. And yes, there was another $10K NL tourney to take a shot at some juicy highball cash.
US Poker Open Event #4 $10 Big Bet Mix attracted 48 runners to the mixed-games affair. Only the top seven paid out in this one with most of the cheesecake set aside to the champion.
The final table included several familiar faces including Sean Perry, Alex Foxen, Jim Collopy, Maxx Coleman, Jeremy Asmus, Brian Okin, and John Riordan. Perry bagged the lead at the conclusion of the first day.
Alex Foxen busted in third place, which set up a heads-up bout between John Riordan and Sean Perry. When the dust settled, Perry headed to the rail in second place, while John Riordan stepped into the winner's circle. Event #4 Big Bet Mix paid out $163,200 to the champion, plus 163 points.
US Poker Open Event #5 $10,000 NL attracted 85 runners. The top 13 places paid out of the 85-entrant prize pool.
Cary Katz bagged the chip lead at the end of Day 1. The final table for Event #5 included Nick Schulman, Cary Katz, Joe McKeehen, Adam Hendrix, Joey Weissman, Frank Funaro, Brock Wilson, and Vin Bosca.
Katz hit the bricks in fourth place, while Joe McKeehen busted in third place. The points/cash propelled him to the top of the US Poker Open Leaderboard.
Adam Hendrix steamrolled the final table and found himself with a sweet chip lead over Weissman. Despite the uphill battle, Weissman beat Hendrix heads up for the title and $204,000 in cash.
Nick Schulman and Dan Shak just missed the final table, but cashed. They were followed by Daniel Negreanu in tenth place. Shannon Shorr, Jordan Cristos, and Ali Imsirovic also cashed in the fifth event. Kid Poker notched his first cash in this years' USPO.
With his second cash of the 2021 USPO, Joe McKeehen jumped into first place on the leaderboard with 302 points and $302K in total money winnings. Jake Daniel is second with 219 points, followed by Joey Weisman who moved into third overall with his $204K cash in Event #5.
Sam Soverel won Event # 2 PLO and cashed twice, which is why he's in fourth on the leaderboard with 195 points. Dan Shak cashed twice with 186K. Riordan also cashed twice this series including a win in Big Bet Mix. He moved into sixth with 182 points. Yes, that's Steve Z holding his own in seventh place against the young guns with 153 points.
