A poker pro from the posh suburbs of New York City got pinched by The Man for dealing pounds of weed. In February of this year, Micah Raskin of Old Westbury, New York, had his home on Long Island and storage unit raided by the police. During a search, the police found an incriminating amount of marijuana (in excess of 350 pounds), hash oil, cash ($140K worth), and weapons. In addition to the cash and contraband, the police also seized his Range Rover and Corvette, plus high-end artwork valued in excess of $100K.
Nassau County prosecutors hit the 50-year old Raskin with five charges including four felony chargers. Raskin was charged with three drugs charges and two weapons charges including a New York State Class C felony, three Class D felony, and one Class A
According to the Baltimore Sun, Raskin got even worse news last week when he was charged in U.S. District Court with distributing 100 kilograms or more of marijuana.
According to a original statement released in February by Nassau County's District Attorney Madeline Singas, "The defendant allegedly received drug shipments to locations on Long Island and stored them in his Old Westbury home and a Garden City storage facility before a courier delivered them to customers in Baltimore, Washington D.C., Virginia and New York, charging $1,400 for a pound of marijuana. It's believed this alleged activity went on for a period of several years."
The D.A. also added, "This alleged dealer's time living the high life selling drugs is over."
Wait a sec... $1.4K for a pound? That's a little more than $3 per gram wholesale, or approximately $88 an ounce.
The police estimated they seized $500,000 worth of marijuana in what Nassau County prosecutors are claiming is among their largest weed busts in Long Island history.
Raskin won over $1.9 million in poker tournament earnings. Raskin spent a lot of time playing poker in Atlantic City. Raskin's biggest cash to date occurred at the Borgata Casino in AC in August 2009. Raskin shipped a $1,500 buy-in Deep Stacks event for a $320K score. In 2010, Raskin final tabled a WSOP Circuit event at Harrah's that was won by pro Chris Bell.
