2016 November Nine: Updated betting odds

The 2016 WSOP Main Event final table starts on Sunday. It's your last chance to get a wager down on the November Nine. Which of the final nine will win the 2016 WSOP Main Event Championship? First place pays out $8 million and Cliff Josephy a.k.a. JohnnyBax is the overall chip leader. As expected, he's the heavy favorite to win the 2016 Main Event at +225 according to Bovada. Qui Nguyen, who surged to second in chips on Day 7, is +400. Young gun Gordon Vayo is right behind at +500. Belgian Kenny Halleart is +500 and Vojtech Ruzicka from the Czech Republic is +900. Mike Ruane and Girffin Benger are also +900. The short stacks are the biggest long shots on the board with Jerry Wong listed at +2500 and Spain's Fernando Pons at +4000. Cards go in the air for the November Nine on Sunday, October 30. The final four return on Monday October 31. Heads-up is scheduled for Tuesday, November 1.

The conclusion of the 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event is almost here! Who is going to win $8 million? Nine players a.k.a. The November Nine are still alive with American Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy as the chip leader. The final table of the 2016 November Nine kicks off on Sunday October 30th at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas and finishing off with the heads-up battle on November 1st. The Third-Annual Chad Brown Memorial Charity Tournament to be hosted in Atlantic City

On Thursday November 3, 2016, PokerStars will sponsor the third annual Chad Brown Memorial Charity Tournament in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Former PokerStars Team Pro Chad Brown passed away in July 2014 from a rare type of cancer known as liposarcoma. Proceeds from this event will go toward sarcoma cancer research and the T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS Research. The third annual Chad Brown Memorial Charity Tournament will be hosted by Daniel Negreanu and take place at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City as a part of its PokerStars New Jersey Festival.

2016 WSOP Main Event episodes 13 and 14

ESPN aired two more episodes of the 2016 WSOP Main Event. These episodes covered Day 7 as the field made its way from 21 to the actual November Nine. The end of Episode 13 had fireworks and the hand that everyone has been talking about since it occurred back in July. The chatty and insufferable British lawyer Will Kassouf and the ultra-competitive Canadian Griffin Benger tussled in a cooler. Benger stood up for himself after Kassouf had been “verbally abusing him” during the hand. When it ended, Benger's pocket Aces held up and Kassouf busted in 17th place. Episode 14 covered the rushes of Gordon Vayo and Qui Nguyen as both advanced to the November Nine.

David 'dpeters17' Peters wins the Sunday Million

American online exile David ‘dpeters17' Peters shipped the Sunday Million on PokerStars. He faded 5,041 players to win $143K. The final table took approximately two hours and heads-up between Peters and “Jack Addict” lasted a full hour. Peters finished in 16th place in the Sunday Million last week. Peters is having a sick year. He won a WSOP bracelet during the WSOP and finished in second place in a couple of High Rollers. His run good continued by binking the Sunday Milly. Poker Brat: Phil Hellmuth's autobiography due in 2017

The Poker Brat is finally publishing his memoir tentatively titled: “The Poker Brat.” The long-awaited autobiography by Phil Hellmuth will hit bookshelves and virtual stores next year. The 1989 WSOP Main Event champion and 14-time WSOP bracelet winner originally had a contract with literary giant Harper Collins, but that deal got squashed in the wake of Black Friday 2011. Five years later, Hellmuth found a new publisher and D&B Publishing will release the book in February 2017. Hellmuth's autobiography will spill the beans about how the Poker Brat transformed himself from a high school loser into a world class poker pro. But wait, there's more! Hellmuth is currently in the process of writing another manuscript and motivational book about “how to achieve great things in life.”

Kevin Costner in talks to join cast of new poker film Molly's Game

Aaron Sorkin is set to make his directorial debut with an adaptation of the memoir Molly's Game, which is a tell-all about secret high-stakes games featuring celebrities and other elite one-percenters. Strong rumors rattling around in Hollywood right now that Academy Award winner Kevin Costner will join the cast that already includes Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba. In addition, Michael Cera from Arrested Development fame is also rumored to be interested in a role in Molly's Game as well.

Amaya and William Hill merger talks fall apart

The $6 billion merger between two gambling giants that is not going to happen. Those red-hot rumors about a merger with British bookmaker William Hill and PokerStars' parent company Amaya? Well apparently the negotiations fell apart after Parvus Assent Management, one of the primary investors in William Hill, balked at any merger ideas. Eric Hollreiser from PokerStars responded with a blog post about the inaccuracies in Parvus' claims. Meanwhile, will GVC swoop in to buy PokerStars, or will former CEO David Baazov figure out a way to buy PokerStars?

Elton Tsang wins One Drop Extravaganza for a €11,111,111 score

Elton Tsang from Hong Kong banked €11,111,111 for winning the 2016 One Drop Extravaganza in Monte Carlo. The €1,000,000 buy-in Big One for One Drop attracted 26 players and 28 total entries. Only the top six paid out. Tsang edged out Russian businessman Anatoly Gurtovoy after 45 hands of heads-up action. Rick Salomon, most famous for being actress Shannen Doherty's ex-husband and his solid performance in the tawdry Paris Hilton sex tape, finished in third place.

Poker Hall of Fame to induct Carlos Mortensen and Todd Brunson

The votes have been tallied for this year's class into the Poker Hall of Fame. Out of ten initial nominees, only two made the cut: 2001WSOP Main Event Champion Carlos Mortensen and Todd Brunson. They will officially be inducted on October 26th at Binions in downtown Las Vegas. Brunson's father, the legendary Texas Dolly, is already in the HOF.

Photographer Larry Clark shot a man in a poker game in 1976

Photographer and filmmaker Larry Clark, the director of the controversial film Kids, admitted on the WTF Podcast with Marc Maron that he once shot a man during a poker game. Sounds like a Johnnie Cash lyric, but it was real life for the Tulsa-based artist who documented the dark lives of himself and his friends, who were low-life junkies and speed freaks. In 1976, Clark was jailed for 19 months for shooting a man during a poker game after an opposing player refused to pay him. A stunned Clark revealed that he was shocked that the guy ratted on him to the police.

Taj Mahal officially closes

Donald Trump's Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City has officially closed its doors after 26 years of operation on the Boardwalk. Once dubbed the “8th Wonder of the World,” the Taj had gone into deep financial despair. Donald Trump sold the Taj casino in 2009. Despite attempts to revitalized the bankrupt Taj, the decision was finally made by owner Carl Ichan to shut it down. The Taj marks the fifth casino to close in Atlantic City, New Jersey since 2014.

PokerStars Festival in Atlantic City will have 50 gaming events

The inaugural PokerStars Festival is coming to Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the end of October. Running from October 29 through November 6, the PokerStars Festival will boast 50 gaming events including a Main Event championship, High Roller event, and the PokerStars Cup. In addition, Jason Somerville will be hosting a special Run It Up event. There will also be a StarsFun skill zone with lots of hijinks.

WPT Maryland Live: Medical student Zachary Smiley wins WPT title and $356K

The WPT Maryland Live main event attracted 554 players and the final table included Cate Hall, Ben Zamani, Darren Elias, Mario Silvestri, Zack Smiley, and Ryan Belz. Cate Hall final tabled this event last year with a fifth-place finish that put her on the poker map. The lawyer-turned-poker pro made another final table, but she was could not jumpstart her short stack and busted in sixth place. WPT POY leader Ben Zamani made another final table, but he went out in fifth place. Former medical student Zachary Smiley edged out Ryan Belz heads-up to win $356K and a seat into the Tournament of Champions.

Hurricane Matthew: Florida evacuations, casino closings, and poker cancellations

The largest storm in over a decade, since Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, is set to hit mainland America. Hurricane Matthew is predicted due to reach the Florida coast on Thursday morning and the Carolinas by Friday. Governor Rick Scott of Florida, urged residents of South Florida to evacuate. Several casinos in Florida are shutting down and/or cancelling events including the bestbet WPT Festival in Jacksonville, Seminole Hardrock Hollywood, Seminole Coconut Creek, Palm Beach Kennel Club, Daytona Beach Kennel Club, Gulfstream Park, and the Isle Casino Casino Pompano Park.
