PokerStars introduces La Course in France

PokerStars.FR released a special format for their French players called La Course. This cycling-themed event features a 4-person progressive knockout SNG and Shootout format with randomized PKO bounty prizes. Players can start this race for a modest entry fee of €1, with various buy-in levels (sprint levels) up to €60. You win the sprint race by reaching a specific monetary number of bounties and can earn up to €100K in bonus prizes.

Galfond Challenge: Next up ActionFreak, five days a week

Phil Galfond will take on ActionFreak in the next installment of the Galfond Challenge over at Run It Once Poker. This heads-up PLO series, the third overall, will take place at €150/€300 stakes for only 15,000 hands. The two have an even money side bet worth €150,000. The first day of action lasted a brief time whole ActionFreak experienced technical difficulties. Action between Galfond and ActionFreak will resume on Tuesday.

Alexandros Kolonias wins Poker Masters Online and purple jacket

At the first-ever Poker Masters Online, hosted at partypoker, Alexandros Kolonias cashed in 11 out of 30 events to win nearly $1.3 million and earn the prestigious Purple Jacket for finishing in first place on the PMO Championship Leader Board. Kolonias, the top Greek pro in the world who also won the 2019 WSOP Europe Main Event, locked up the purple jacket with a victory in Event #30 $10K 6-Max.

High Stakes Poker: Gus Hansen vs Daniel Negreanu in $575K Pot

Flashbacks are always fun, especially monsterpottens involving two well-known pros clashing during an episode of the classic TV Series "High Stakes Poker". In this classic hand, Gus Hansen and Daniel Negreanu squared off in a $575,000 pot for the ages, which was the biggest pot in the history of televised poker (at the time). They both flopped sets, but Gus turned quads with pocket fives and fireworks ensued on the river.

Carolyn Goodman, the current Mayor of Las Vegas and wife of ex-mayor Oscar Goodman, shocked the world with her preposterous assertions about opening up the Las Vegas Strip during a live interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN. Mayor Goodman insisted that Las Vegas re-open in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Mayor Goodman immediately received blowback from all sides of the political spectrum and health officials.

2020 World Series of Poker officially postponed until fall

With a little more than a month to go before the start of the 2020 World Series of Poker at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas, officials announced on Monday that the 2020 WSOP is officially postponed until the fall due to the coronavirus pandemic. Las Vegas casinos still remained closed for the remainder of April despite pleas from Mayor Goodman to reopen as soon as possible.

Phil Galfond wins first Galfond Challenge on Day 39

After 2.5 months and 39 sessions, the first Galfond Challenge with 25,000 hands of €100/€200 PLO has come to a conclusion. Phil Galfond completed his epic comeback by rallying from down €900K to secure a modest +€9,843 victory and win a €100K side bet against VeniVidi. But even Galfond admitted he didn't think they'd finish it off on Sunday, but they played 699 hands to cap it off.

Big stars for ACR and Run It Once COVID-19 charity tournament

On Saturday, there will be two big charity poker events with proceeds donated to COVID-19 relief. Run It Once Poker will host a special heads-up tournament featuring 16 of the top players in the world including Phil Galfond, Sam Greenwood, Parker Talbot, John Cynn, and Dan Smith battling 16 qualifiers. Galfond Challenge: VeniVidi wins back-to-back sessions to retake small lead

And the nosebleed PLO swings continue. After blowing a €900K lead over Phil Galfond, VeniVidi posted consecutive winning sessions to regain the lead in the Galfond Challenge at Run It Once Poker. Galfond dropped 78,237 during Day 37. With 1,432 hands remaining in the 25,000-hand heads-up battle at €100/€200 PLO, VeniVidi now leads by €31,753. With the two nearly deadlocked over the past week, this could end in less than three sessions.

Galfond Challenge: First 'Double-Green' day, Galfond leads +€81K

With less than 3,000 hands remaining in the inaugural Galfond Challenge, Phil Galfond seized the lead and posted his first "double green" day since this began in late January. On Day 35, Galfond booked a session win worth €121,486 to put him ahead of VeniVidi for the first time. After 22,097 hands of heads-up PLO, Galfond is now ahead €81,064 after wiping out a €900K deficit.

Phil Galfond finally unstuck after another winning session

During Day 32 of the Galfond Challenge against VeniVidi on Run It Once Poker, Phil Galfond book another six-figure win to nearly erase a €900K hole. For a brief moment on Thursday, the smoking-hot Galfond pulled ahead of VeniVidi before he posted a late rally. But the damage was done. Galfond won €113,680 on Day 32 as his miraculous comeback continued. VeniVedi's lead shrunk to 40,607 with less than 5,000 hands remaining.

All Nevada casinos, including Las Vegas, closed during April

North America has not reached the peak of the coronavirus pandemic and as a result, Nevada will continue to close all casino properties for the month of April. In mid-March, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak closed all casinos for 30 days. At the start of April, Gov Sisolak extended closures through the end of April. He will make a decision to re-open the end of the month, but the outlook seems grim. As of March 31, there were 1,279 COVID-19 cases in Nevada with 26 fatalities.
