The 2021 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown set new record for most entrants in a World Poker Tour event with 2,482 entrants and generated a prize pool worth nearly $7.95 million, which also crushed the initial $2 million guarantee. The final table is set and Sonny Franco bagged the lead with Brekstyn Schutten, Steven Snyder, Ken Aldridge, Albert Calderon, and Viet Vo still remaining. The final six will slug it out at a delayed final table at the Aria Casino in Las Vegas on May 18. First place pays out $1.26 million.

ESPN will no longer broadcast the World Series of Poker. The 2021 WSOP moves to CBS Sports, which is available via Paramount+ streaming service. The WSOP and CBS Sports agreed to a multi-year partnership. ESPN's coverage of the WSOP was an integral part of the online poker boom in the early 2000s when they aired the epic run by Chris Moneymaker at the 2003 WSOP.
It's been a long time coming, but the Rio Casino and Resort in Las Vegas will return to full operations. The Rio, also the home for the iconic World Series of Poker, re-opened in December but the hotel and resort was only open to the public on the weekends. The Rio resumes 24/7 operations including the return of bars and restaurants and weekday reservations. The 2021 WSOP will take place this fall at the Rio's convention center.

Playing on PokerStars as raidalot, Shakerchi binked his fifth SCOOP title with a victory in 2021 SCOOP Event $2,100 HORSE. Shakerchi won a SCOOP in back-to-back years after he won his fourth SCOOP last spring. He's now a member of the 5 SCOOP Club with Jason Mercier, Luke Schwartz, and Shaun Deeb.

The 2021 World Series of Poker will run a full slate of live bracelet events starting this fall. The 2021 WSOP returns to the Rio Casino in Las Vegas starting September 30 and running through November 23. The $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event begins with four flights starting November 4. The WSOP Online series also returns this summer for both US and international players. Plus, the 2021 WSOP Europe returns to the King's Casino in Roz Vegas between November 19 and December 8.
