A special COOP comes to South Europe! For players in Spain, France, and Portugal, the first-ever South Europe Championship of Poker (SECOOP) will be hosted at PokerStars beginning October 28 through November 12. A total of 149 events are on the schedule with $10 million in guaranteed prize pools and no less than 3 Platinum Passes to the PSPC are in play.
If you live in France, Portugal, or Spain then you're in luck because SECOOP is coming! The 2018 SECOOP is an inaugural event hosted by PokerStars. You might remember that red spade online poker site that threw other online tournament fiestas like WCOOP and SCOOP and TCOOP. And now there's SECOOP, specifically targeted for players from Southern Europe.
2018 SECOOP events start as low as €5! Yeah for a fiver you have a shot at SECOOP glory. And the most-expensive buy-in is only €250. Not too shabby, eh?
If you're not from Spain, France, or Portugal... then you're out of luck. It sucks to be a player from Italy because their government dragged their feet with getting on board with the Southern Europe gaming syndicate with shared pools. Alas, Italy misses out on this one... but Italy will have their own smaller version of a COOP! Announcing ICOOP. Yes, this is real. I looked it up. According to Stephen Bartley at PokerStars Blog, "ICOOP offers you 68 events, with a combined guarantee of €4 million between October 28 and November 12."
And of course, as an American, we miss out on everything in the world of virtual poker (unless you live in one of the tiny states that offers poker like New Jersey, Delaware, or Nevada... and even if you are from those states, you still cannot play at SECOOP).
So, what's up with SECOOP? Nothing too out of the ordinary. It's essentially the SoEuro version of WCOOP. If you don't know, PokerStars hosts the World Championship of Online Poker a.k.a. WCOOP every September and then throws a similar party in March for the Spring Championship of Online Poker. These COOP events have multiple tiers of buy-ins so everyone has an opportunity to play whether they're an amateur, or pro, or a dilettante with deep pockets.
Some programming notes...
- The Main Event has a €250 buy-in and a €1M guaranteed prize pool. That starts on November 11.
- There's also a pair of special Sunday events that have guarantees of €300,000 (October 28) and €350,000 (November 4).
- Platinum passes (3 in total) will be awarded to the SECOOP leaderboard winners.
