Cate Hall already faded a turbulent field of 1,222 South Florida swampdonks to advance to the final table at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown. The $3,500 buy-in event attracted massive crowd and a $3.9 million prize pool. There's $669,161 set aside for the champion. If Cate Hall wins, then she'll also make history as the first-ever female to win a WPT open event. She also needs to finish third place or higher to lock up the WPT Player of the Year award.
Florida is one of the hottest regional poker scenes. If you're looking for some juicy games, then head down to sunny Florida. Lots of old money. Lots of new money. Plenty of retired folks with money to burn. Plenty of hustlers, crooked politicans, real estate scions, club impresarios, pirates, smugglers, and other shady characters engaging in nefarious things in the shadows we don't want to discuss so not to scare the women and children. Yeah, Florida has always had an outlaw edge to it, so it's no surprise to see poker flourish down at places like the Seminole Hard Rock. That casino has become the epicenter for poker in Florida. It's sort of become the southern base for the World Poker Tour with three big events being hosted here. The Tournament of Champions kicks off Thursday and the final table for the $10K WPT SHR Poker Finale resumes on Thursday with Chino Rheem seeking his third-career WPT title.
Meanwhile, the WPT SHR Poker Showdown is down to the final ten players. Cate Hall is attempting to make history by becoming the first-ever female champ. She's also chasing a Player of the Year title. The Hublot POY race is down to her and Mike Shariati. Hall is currently in second place but she can lock up POY with a third-place finish. Yeah, a win for Hall would be a double-whammy – she'll become the first female champion and win POY! Alas, Hall is also second-to-last in chips with a 1.1M stack compared to front-runner Hyoung Chae's 6.2M monster stack.
Will it be a historic win for Cate Hall? The final table commences at 11am local time or 8am Vegas time on Wednesday. Follow the WPT live blog for updates. First place pays out $669,161, plus a $15,000 seat into the Tournament of Champions.
